Cooking! - Hald Hovedgaard - Day 5

The last night I spend at Hald Hovedgaard was wonderful. We all met at 8 PM. Off course I forgot to bring my own book; “Noas Ark II” but instead I chose to read aloud some new material. It was great fun.
I  also had the chance to listen to a lot of fellow writers work in many different genres - including a few songs too. One of the translators made a wonderful cake to us. She found the recipe in the cook book called: FORFATTERNESKØKKEN.”
I will have to buy that one.
The next morning I drove home to Frederiksberg.

It´s a good idea to spend time away from home. Especially if your partner is being supportive about this. Luckily my husband is. Coming home to my sweet girls is always the best part.
I will definitely come back to Hald Hovedgaard. How good to meet so many talented people. And funny ones too.
I will keep an eye on your work in future!

Living in a box? - Hald Hovedgaard - Day 3

It almost feels like living inside this small house in a tree. Staying in my room most of the day. But there are actually a lot of other writers and translators here at Hald Hovedgaard this week.
Tomorrow we will gather and read aloud while having ´tea.´ It could be something that we are working on at the moment, or something that we have written in the past. Even something which hasn’t been published yet.
Some will bring guitars, others will read translated material. There will also be poems and children’s literature.
Hald Hovedgaard is a wonderful place.
If you haven’t been here yet, you should consider applying for a stay. The small house in the tree is not for rent. It’s not even a part of Hald Hovedgaard. I just passed it on the way to buy milk at the local supermarket and liked how it looked. I am living in a box. I even had a box dinner tonight. And my computer is a box too. If I turn out like Sponge Bob Square Pants tomorrow please tell me! After all it´s Valentines Day.

Writer´s eggs! - Hald Hovedgaard - Day 2

Time flies when you´re having fun. That´s what they say. In my case that means being busy writing most of the day. Today one of my two computers broke down. Just as I expected. Now, luckily Ms. Compaq (my second computer) i doing fine. She will be doing the rest of the weeks work.

Today I finished what I actually came to do. Finishing a children´s book.
The next days will bring new stories.

I have been spending short breaks looking at the many very talented, and well known, Danish illustrators as well as reading a few short stories for tweens and teens that I brought with me. I also had a great time today reading next week´s assignment for Forfatterskolen for Børnelitteratur. Can’t wait to my fellow students again.

I really like this place. This room on the picture. The photo is not new. I can assure you. The desk is a mess by now.

Being in the countryside makes me eat old-fashioned concerning food. The food I´m eating these days brings you back to the Vikings, and the 8th century.

Eggs and herring! How reliable is that?

Just read this short thing from the web about the place.

The Hald manor is situated in its own French-style park, ten kilometres outside Viborg, one of the oldest towns in Denmark, founded by Vikings in the 8th century. The unusually beautiful surroundings include Hald Lake, the hills of Dollerup Bakker and the ancient Hald Oak Forest. The Danish Centre for Writers and Translators is a self-governing institution receiving economic support from the Danish state and the council of Viborg.”

I’ve heard about writer´s block, but I hadn’t heard about writer´s eggs. And writer´s herring!

Joy and gratefulness - Hald Hovedgaard - Day 1

Today I arrived at Hald Hovedgaard. A Center for writers and translators. A free working residencies at the old manor Hald Hovedgaard, situated 10 kilometres from the town of Viborg, in the middle of Denmark.
On one hand I had heard about other writers’ experiences. On the other hand I hadn’t really been listening at all. Do you know that feeling? You think you’re listening. But you’re not really.

I brought my two computers. I really have trouble with computers these days. Maybe I always did. Maybe everyone has computer problems. I am planning to have a new best friend this year. Mr. Dropbox!

So here I am. Working. Working.
Every now and then I take a walk to the kitchen. Making myself coffee, or tea. Cooking for myself and meeting others. After a while I return to my room.

It’s almost like being at AskovHøjskole again. The room where I am staying, at Hald Hovedgaard, and the room at Askov Højskole, when I first began to write in 1994´, is so alike.
I remember that day when I was writing a very short article about a fellow student’s life. Back then I was really enjoying myself. I feel the same today.
Joy and gratefulness.
